NMU Named Military-Friendly School

Friday 26, 2014

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University has been designated a 2015 Military Friendly School by Victory Media. This marks NMU’s sixth consecutive appearance on the list. The designation honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide that are “doing the most to embrace military students and dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation.”

NMU offers in-state tuition for all eligible U.S. military veterans pursuing a college degree. Victory Media has also credited NMU for—among other benefits—its membership in the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges consortium, its ROTC program and the presence of an on-site adviser who assists veterans with career placement.

According to Victory Media, “The veterans who are students of Northern Michigan University list affordable tuition and fees, a friendly and helpful campus and a wide variety of academic programs that range from one- and two-year programs to those at the baccalaureate and graduate levels as some of the top benefits of the university.”

The 2015 list of Military-Friendly Schools is based on what Victory Media describes as extensive research and a data-driven survey of schools nationwide approved for Post-9/11 GI Bill funding. The school survey, methodology, criteria and weightings are developed with the assistance of an independent Academic Advisory Board comprised of educators from schools across the country. The survey is administered for free and open to all post-secondary schools that wish to participate.
