NMU President Plans Town Hall with Student Veterans

Tuesday 7, 2014

MARQUETTE, Mich.— Northern Michigan University President Fritz Erickson will hold a town hall meeting with NMU students who are veterans, National Guard members, Reservists and ROTC cadets. Erickson would like to hear their perspectives on the NMU experience—from what has been most helpful to what could be improved.

The event is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the University Center Marquette/Nicolet Rooms. Because hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served, RSVPs are requested by Oct. 21 at 227-2242 or NMUPres@nmu.edu.

“Since arriving at NMU a few months ago, I’ve been busy meeting with a variety of campus and community groups,” wrote Erickson in an email invitation to those using G.I. benefits. “NMU has been designated for many years by G.I. Jobs magazine as a military-friendly campus. If that isn’t your experience, I want to know why and what we might be able to do to help make it so. If it has been your experience, I’d like to know what NMU has done that’s been most helpful to you and brainstorm how we might recruit more veterans as students.”

NMU recently earned its sixth-straight designation as a Military Friendly School by Victory Media, which produces G.I. Jobs and other resources for veterans.
