Genealogy Presentation at NMU

Thursday 30, 2014

The Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives will host an event focused on genealogy and genealogical research from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in room 126 of the Learning Resources Center. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.

NMU archivist Marcus Robyns will review the process of researching the history of a family home or personal property using county, municipality and township resources readily available to the public. Research consultant Karen Kasper will discuss the Archives’ microfilm collection and church records that include baptisms, marriages, funerals and early membership. Kasper and Annika Peterson, reference and reading room coordinator, will unveil and review the Archives’ new genealogical resources website designed to help beginners embark on research.

The Archives offers a wide variety of resources, including Marquette county, court, marriage, tax, naturalization and immigration records. For more information, contact Peter Dewan at pdewan@nmu.edu or 227-1225.
