Media Advisory: Leadership Retreat Friday

Wednesday 3, 2014

Northern Michigan University students who participate in the nationally recognized Student Leader Fellowship Program will host a leadership retreat for 40 Westwood High School students as a community service project. Media are welcome to cover the event. It is scheduled on Friday, Dec. 5, in the Explorer Rooms of the University Center. The best opportunities for photos/video would be from 10:30-11:40 a.m. and 12:10-1 p.m., when group skill/team-building and communication experiences are planned. The retreat will revolve around a puzzle theme: "Piecing Together Leadership."

The idea was presented by students in a leadership theory and practice course, which is required for SLFP participants. It is modeled after the annual SLFP fall retreat held at Bay Cliff, but incorporates an academic service learning component. NMU students decided to invite an area high school and plan/coordinate the day's activities.
