Sycamore Smith and Canonball Drag Concert Saturday

Tuesday 6, 2015

Singer/songwriter Sycamore Smith and blues duo The Cannonball Drag will perform at the next Beaumier Coffee House Concert at Northern Michigan University on Saturday, Jan. 10. The music begins at 7 p.m. in the Peter White Lounge of the University Center. Admission is free.

Smith has long been part of the Marquette indie folk
scene as a former member of the Muldoons and solo performer. Gregory Heany of All Music
writes, "While Michigan's Upper Peninsula is home to many hidden wonders, perhaps its most hidden and wonderful is singer/
songwriter Sycamore Smith...and if your sense of humor has the right blend of merry and macabre, Sycamore Smith is the songwriter you've been looking for.”

The Cannonball Drag of Marquette is Zach Mueller and Tyler Detloff. The duo's main goal is to showcase a wide range of blues music, from Atlanta to Mississippi to Chicago. The Cannonball Drag's original songs revolve around the fishing culture on Lake Superior, mainly deep-water, down-rigger trolling. With a dark blue yet energetic spin on the region's fishing practices and naturally scenic atmosphere, Detloff and Mueller invite the audience to get down with the old sound in a new context with guitars, harmonicas and a suitcase kick drum.
