Drama 'Tribes' Performed at NMU

            MARQUETTE, Mich.— Northern Michigan University’s theater program will present the drama Tribes. The production will have a Tuesday-Saturday run over two weeks—Feb. 10-Feb. 14 and Feb. 17-21 in the James. A. Panowski Black Box Theatre. Show times are 7:30 p.m., with an additional 1 p.m. matinee on Saturday.

            Tribes follows Billy, a deaf man raised inside the fiercely politically incorrect cocoon of his parent’s house. It’s not until he meets Sylvia, a young woman on the brink of deafness, that he finally understands what it means to be understood.

 NMU professor Shelley Russell directs the production. Marquette community member Jessica "Red" Bays plays Beth. NMU students in featured roles are John Scheibe of Iron Mountain as Billy, Amanda Woods of Marquette as Sylvia, Tom Lee of Waterford as Christopher, James Porras II of Menominee as Daniel and Lily Howder of Eau Claire, Wis., as Ruth.

Tickets are available at all NMU EZ Ticket outlets or online at www.nmu.edu/tickets. Prices are $5 for NMU students with ID, $10 for other students and $15 for the general public.
