'Elect Her' Workshop at NMU
Elect Her, a free half-day workshop that encourages and trains college women to run for student government and future political office, will be held at Northern Michigan University. The session will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the Explorer Rooms of the University Center.
Elect Her addresses the need to expand the pipeline of women running for office and to diminish the longstanding political leadership gender gap. Participants will practice hands-on campaign skills, hear from local speakers and discuss research on women in government. Topics covered include indentifying a central issue, making an impact, the nuts and bolts of running for ASNMU, building a campaign team, the importance of message, elevator speech, a campaigning simulation and strategy sharing.
The event is sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW), NMU’s Gender Working Group and the Women for Women student organization. Students can sign up for the event at nmu.edu/skillbuilders. For more information or questions, contact apalmer@nmu.edu.
