Altius String Quartet Performs at NMU

News Media: Altius Quartet will perform at different campus locations at noon Tuesday-Friday leading up to Saturday's gala concert. Noon performances are as follows: Tuesday, Wildcat Den; Wednesday, Starbucks in Jamrich Hall; Thursday, Olson Library/LRC; Friday, Marketplace. The ensemble will also host a "Bach Meets Rock" open jam session at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Thomas Fine Arts 250 and play at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the upper deck of the PEIF recreational area. MARQUETTE, Mich.--The Altius Quartet, string division silver medal recipients at the 2014 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, will perform a free gala concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 4, in Reynolds Recital Hall at Northern Michigan University.

The Altius Quartet is in residence at NMU leading up to the concert, with brief performances across campus and workshops at NMU and local schools. Its members are committed to outreach, teaching master classes in public schools and music programs.  The group’s visit is supported by the NMU Siril Endowment for the Music Arts.

The Altius Quartet was formed in 2011 and has toured throughout the United States. It is the resident quartet of the Western Slope Concert Series in Colorado and the graduate string quartet-in-residence at the University of Colorado-Boulder.
