U.P. Economics Poster Contest Winners Named
Four students—two at the elementary level and two in middle school—received awards for their entries in the U.P. Economics Poster Contest. Students designed posters to illustrate one of the six core economic concepts: scarcity, specialization, opportunity costs, productive resources, goods/services and producers/consumers. The contest was developed to stimulate interest in the fundamentals of our economic system and makes it fun to learn about the subject. The U.P. installment was organized by the Michigan Council on Economic Education, the Northern Michigan University Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship (CEEE) and the NMU Economics Student Association. Pictured at a recent ceremony at NMU are (from left): Kevin Flohe, co-president of the Economics Student Association; winner Emma Goodwin, Bothwell Middle School; winner Amira Rowan, William G. Mather Elementary School; and Hugo Eyzaguirre, director of the CEEE. The other two winners not pictured are Layla Husbeck and Isabelle Irwin, both of Blesch Intermediate School in Menominee.
