Wednesday 20, 2015

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University will offer a manufacturing production technician diploma program in Escanaba to address the increased regional demand for entry-level employees in the field. The program runs June 8-Aug. 19.

“Many manufacturers in the region are experiencing a continued upswing in production and are preparing for growth, which will require more workers to be hired,” said John Centko, head of the NMU Technology and Occupational Sciences department. “Our goal is to help prepare enough qualified graduates to fill that need.”

Students will develop skills related to the basic operation of manufacturing equipment, reading blueprints and using precision measuring tools and equipment. They will also gain knowledge in occupational safety, the manufacturing process, time management, team building and problem solving. They will be equipped to enter the workforce with a diploma designed to give them an edge over other entry-level applicants. Students also have the option of continuing their education, applying all 16 credits toward an associate or bachelor’s degree.

Scholarships are available. The only requirement to enroll is a high school diploma or GED. For more information or to submit an application, visit nmu.edu/tos/mpt.
