Two Visiting Writers Give Reading at NMU

Authors Leslie Jamison and Eula Bliss will hold a dual reading to kick off the 2015-16 Northern Michigan University Visiting Writers Series. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the University Center's Ontario Room. This event is free and open to the public.

Jamison is the author of The Empathy Exams, a New York Times bestselling essay collection, and a novel, The Gin Closet, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times First Fiction Award. She also has appeared in various journals and newspapers. She is a regular columnist for the New York Times Sunday Book Review. She lives in Brooklyn and is an assistant professor at Columbia University.

Bliss is the author of three books: On Immunity: An InoculationNotes from No Man’s Land: American Essays, and The Balloonists. Her essays have appeared in various journals. She has her bachelor’s degree in nonfiction writing from Hampshire College and her master’s degree in nonfiction writing from the University of Iowa. 

The series is sponsored by the MFA and MA programs in creative writing, NMU’s English department, Passages North literary magazine and Sigma Tau Delta. Light refreshments will be served.
