One Book One Community Selection Announced
MARQUETTE, Mich.— Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan is the 2015 One Book, One Community selection. The program encourages Marquette County and the Northern Michigan University community to share the joy of reading and the free exchange of ideas through a common book. It is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a title that honors the long history of books.
Sloan will visit NMU Tuesday, Oct. 20, to interact with students and give a public presentation and book signing at 7 p.m. in Jamrich Hall 1100. A series of related activities and discussions will be held in October prior to his visit. For updated information, visit www.nmu.edu/onebook.
Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore revolves around an unemployed San Francisco graphic designer, Clay, who finds a job on the night shift at a San Francisco bookshop. Soon after, he and several high-tech friends are engaged in a quest to solve a centuries-old mystery involving codes, a medieval typeface and the search for immortality.
According to the One Book website, Mr. Penumbra’s is a “fun and magical book wherein friendship, perseverance, intelligence, imagination and Google optimistically link old and new technology and speak to our desire for permanence in the digital age.”
