Student Honored by Marquette Rotary

Tuesday 2, 2016

NMU junior Haley Knight of Muskegon received the Marquette Rotary Club’s Community Citizen Award. She founded the NMU student organization, Rotaract, part of an international network of young leaders ages 18-30 who take action in their communities, develop their leadership and professional skills, and engage in social and networking opportunities.

The NMU Rotaract Club has volunteered with the following projects: the Free Little Library at the U.P. Children’s Museum; meal packing for the homeless; Honor Flight for the Jacobetti Veterans Home; Camp STAR; care packages for troops; Presque Isle Bog Walk Nature Trail cleanup; NMU Make a Difference Day; NMU Cancer Awareness Fair; Shoe Boxes for Street People; road cleanup; and donating items to Beacon House and Harbor House.

Knight’s affiliation with Rotary began in 2012, when she attended a Life Leadership Conference sponsored by the Muskegon Rotary Club. She later participated in a service project sponsored by the club to install 100 water filters in mountain communities in Honduras.
