NMU Alumnus Joins Outdoors Industry Media Team

Wednesday 17, 2016

NMU alumnus Jay Anglin honed his outdoor skills in the Upper Peninsula while earning his wildlife biology degree. Raised on the water in Northern Indiana, he has been fly-fishing for more than 30 years and guiding hunters and anglers for the last 20. Anglin recently joined Traditions Media, a PR, media communications and social media team specializing in brands representing the outdoors industry.

Anglin is one of two career hunting and fishing professionals and established communicators announced as new members of the team. They will provide service to hunting and shooting sports partners, and also provide representation and communications support for Traditions' fishing-sector partners.

According to a company press release, Anglin outdoors—the NMU grad’s guide business—provides fishing and hunting experiences, along with ample doses of education on wildlife management and conservation ethics.

“Too many guides are so focused on catching fish or killing game that they become blind to their obligation to educate,' said Anglin, who said he believes that guides are the true ambassadors of the hunting and fishing industries. 'The outdoors is a singular, expansive classroom. Teaching and learning, on both sides and on all fronts, is what the business of guiding is all about, and I'm excited by the prospect of continuing that mission in my communications work for Traditions Media and the excellent brands they represent."

Anglin is also an accomplished freelance writer, speaker, and syndicated columnist. He is a member and active volunteer for Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl, Trout Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He lives in LaPorte, Ind., with his wife Angie, their five children Lauren, Mitch, RJ, Elizabeth and Susan, his black lab, Deuce, and his chocolate lab, Trixie.

During his time at NMU, Anglin wrote for The North Wind, focusing on an outdoor and humor-oriented column, as well as feature assignments. He also was a DJ on WUPX.
