Irish Folk Group Dervish Performs March 9

Wednesday 2, 2016

The Northern Nights performing arts series will close out the season with a concert by multi-award-winning Irish folk group Dervish on Wednesday, March 9. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in Kaufman Auditorium.

Dervish is composed of seven musicians who started playing together in 1989 in local pubs in Ireland and have become internationally recognized for their music. Their concerts have been described as “a rollercoaster of sounds, from high-energy tunes to melodies that lift audiences from their seats.”

The ensemble includes  Cathy Jordan (vocals, bodhrán, bones), Tom Morrow (fiddle, viola), Shane Mitchell (accordion), Liam Kelly (flute, low whistle), Séamus O'Dowd (guitars, harmonica), Michael Holmes (bouzouki) and Brian Mc Donagh (mandola, mandolin).

Advance tickets are $5 for students/children, $15 for faculty/staff and seniors over 60, and $20 for the general public.  Tickets at the door are an additional $2.  Tickets are available at all NMU Ticket Outlets, by calling 227-1032, or online at www.nmu.edu/tickets. The concert was originally scheduled to take place in Forest Roberts Theatre, which is undergoing renovations. Current ticket holders should visit the NMU ticket office in the Superior Dome to return their tickets and select new seats in Kaufman Auditorium.
