Music Seniors Perform Solo Recitals
Northern Michigan University’s music department will showcase the talents of three seniors in upcoming solo recitals. The students being featured are: Audra Hagan on saxophone at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 26; Abbie Beekman, vocalist, at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 2; and Maggie Kieckhafer on piano at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16. Admission is free. All will be held in Reynolds Recital Hall in the C.B. Hedgcock Building.
Hagan will graduate with a music education major and a math education minor. She is from Iron Mountain and transferred to NMU from the University of Michigan. She has been in the following NMU ensembles: Wildcat Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and others. Hagan was also one of the drum majors for the marching band this year and is a member of Mu Beta Psi, a national honorary co-ed musical fraternity.
Beekman is a double major in public relations and music, with a concentration in vocal music. She is from Oconto, Wis. When she arrived at Northern, she received the National Academic Award, NMU Recognition Award and the Leadership Scholarship. Beekman is involved in several campus organizations, including Superior Edge, the Student Leader Fellowship Program and NMU’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. She will be graduating summa cum laude this spring and is also the class soloist for commencement.
Kieckhafer is a music major with an emphasis on piano. She is from Houghton and spent two years at the Lawrence Conservatory before coming to Northern. During her time at NMU, she has been a member of the Jazz Band and Madrigal Choir and has performed with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra. Her goal is to become a vocal coach and professional accompanist. Kieckhafer has recently been accepted to the graduate program at Western Michigan University.
