Video Promotes Research Institute to Prospective Donors

Monday 11, 2016

The NMU Foundation has been working with donors to design and fund a Research Institute (RI) to be housed in Lee Hall.  While still in the conceptual stage, the RI would provide unparalleled research opportunities on Northern’s campus and grow the next generation of scholars in fields related to human disorders.

The conceptual stage of the project  brought together a number of NMU departments to create and produce an informational video that was recently shared at alumni events.  Utilizing AutoCAD technology, NMU Engineering & Planning was able to develop 2D and 3D renderings of a renovated Lee Hall. The project enabled student employees in Engineering & Planning to get real-world experience in the development and design of the RI.

Production specialists at WNMU-TV then combined the renderings with specially designed graphics and interviews with faculty and students. The finished product allows viewers to get a detailed look at the RI and gain an understanding of how the institute would dramatically impact NMU.

The video also provides the Foundation with an innovative way to engage potential donors by creating a sense of excitement regarding the project. At recent alumni events where it was shown, President Fritz Erickson facilitated discussions regarding the project and gathered feedback. A capital and operational budget are currently being developed for the RI. More details will be released in the coming weeks.
