Northern Michigan University student Harrison Moynihan of Grand Haven received the Outstanding Community Impact Award from Michigan Campus Compact. He is one of six students throughout the state to receive the award, which honors those who have made community service an integral part of their college experience by building partnerships between their campuses and communities. Winners receive $200 to donate to the organization of their choice.

Moynihan is a biology major. He completed NMU's nationally recognized Student Leader Fellowship Program, which includes a community service internship, and was awarded the Bill Verrette Outstanding Community Internship for his service with the local Special Olympics organization. Moynihan coached and volunteered for numerous Special Olympic sports and was given the coach’s award at the 2016 U.P. Regional Winter Games. He also was a counselor at Bay Cliff Health Camp for the U.P. Sports Training camp, which teaches cognitively and developmentally disabled adolescents skills to help them participate in the Special Olympics.

Moynihan has been heavily involved in the Elder Errands Club and is the founder and president of the Pre-Physician Assistant Club at NMU.
