Commencement Activities at NMU

Northern Michigan University’s spring commencement ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, in the Superior Dome. Of the 1,106 students eligible to graduate, 853 are scheduled to march in the ceremony.

Participants include 652 undergraduate students and 62 graduate students, along with 127 undergrads and 12 graduate students marching in the ceremony who will officially graduate in August.

The keynote speaker and honorary degree recipient is NMU alumnus Dr. James Surrell. The student speaker is Amer Mansoor of Bloomfield Hills. Abbie Beekman of Oconto, Wis., will be the senior soloist.

The ceremony will be broadcast live by WNMU-TV and streamed online. For a link to the stream and more information, visit www.nmu.edu/commencement. In addition to the main ceremony, other graduation-related activities on campus include the following:

-The NMU School of Nursing will host a pinning ceremony for graduating seniors at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, in 1100 Jamrich Hall. 

-An Educator Recognition Ceremony will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the University Center Great Lakes Rooms. The School of Education, Leadership and Public Service is hosting the event.

-The NMU Wildcat Battalion will host a ceremony for 11 new Second Lieutenants who will take their oath of office and have their bars pinned on them. It is scheduled at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in the Whitman Commons. The guest speaker will be Brigadier General Michael Stone of the Michigan Army National Guard.
