The Upper Peninsula has developed a more diversified economy since the mining and logging booms of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A variety of products are created and exported by U.P. companies. Many of these, both past and present, are featured in the “Made in Da U.P., Eh!” exhibit at Northern Michigan University’s Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center.

The exhibit is on display through Sept. 10 in the center’s new location in Gries Hall off Seventh Street. Summer hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

The display features sections on food and beverages, wood products, recreation, industrial products, clothing and more. U.P. companies donated examples of their products and panels provide information on their history. Some of the companies represented are: sausage maker Vollwerth’s; Stormy Kromer; Donckers; Italian food companies Dina Mia and Mama Russo’s; pasty makers Lawry’s and Jean Kay’s; paper companies New Page, Neenah and Verso; basketball floor producer Conner Sport; Munising Wooden Ware; the Ford plant in Kingsford; and commercial charcoal maker Cliffs Dow Chemical Co.
