Folk Music Camp Scholarships Available

Thursday 26, 2016

The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center announces two scholarship opportunities for high school students to attend the Folk Music School at Northern Michigan University. The camp is scheduled July 17 - 22, just before the beginning of the annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival in Marquette.

There are two scholarships available: the Charles T. Ganzert Scholarship, in honor of the NMU communications professor who passed away in March; and the Hiawatha Music Co-op scholarship, which in the past provided scholarships for students to attend the Augusta Heritage Center camps in Elkins, W.V.

Each scholarship will cover camp tuition of $200 and an additional $25 to apply toward the total room and board cost of $200. Commuter students are also encouraged to apply.

Scholarship applicants should download and complete the application at folkmusicschool.nmu.edu and write a one-page essay on why they would like to attend the camp. Materials should be mailed by June 22 to the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, 1401 Presque Isle Ave., Marquette, MI 49855. For more information, contact Daniel Truckey at 906-227-1219 or dtruckey@nmu.edu.
