NMU Receives Grant for CTE Teachers Initiative

Friday 26, 2016

NMU has received a $6,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Education for a project titled "Stand UP for Career and Technical Education (CTE)." The initiative is designed to increase the percentage of CTE teachers who meet certification or licensure requirements and to assist in recruiting and retaining CTE teachers in the Upper Peninsula.

The project will run through June 30, 2017. According to the award announcement, it potentially could draw CTE teachers from the workforce and veterans. It might also impact enrollment in the School of Education, as the individuals will need to meet necessary state requirements for teaching.

The grant is under the direction of Joe Lubig, associate dean for teacher education and director of education.
