Michael Kaufman, a public speaker and writer focused on engaging men and boys to promote gender equality and end violence against women, will give a presentation at Northern Michigan University titled “Man Talk: Ending Campus Sexual Assault and the Three Secrets of a Great Relationship.” The event begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in 1100 Jamrich Hall. It is free and open to the public. 

The description from Kaufman reads: "Campuses across the nation have a big problem. But the truth is that most men want good relationships (whether it’s for one night or the rest of your life). Campus men want the women we care about to feel safe. This talk, full of stories, humor and packed with information, looks at the root causes of dating violence. It challenges stereotypes and the actions of some men, but does not dump on guys. It gives clear information about consent. It deals with serious issues, but it’s fun and very positive. It gets to the heart and soul (and, yes, other things) of how to build relationships that will make you feel good."

Kaurman is the author of six books, including "The Guy's Guide to Feminism" and "Man Talk."

His presentation is made possible by the NMU “Ending Sexual Violence: 50 Shades K(no)w” initiative. NMU received a $30,000 grant from the Michigan State Police campus sexual assault grant program, which encourages new approaches designed to change the overall culture of sexual assault among the college population.
