NMU Recruiting Subjects for 'Couch to 5K' Study
The Northern Michigan University School of Health and Human Performance is recruiting volunteers for an eight-week study of a “couch to 5K” run training program. Beginners or those who were former aerobic enthusiasts but stopped are encouraged to register.
Participants will be randomized to either road or trail running groups and provided a general training program with gentle progression and low mileage. They will also undergo pre- and post-race testing for maximum oxygen consumption, leg strength and balance.
To participate, individuals must be: 18-44 years old; untrained, which for this purpose means inactive or engaged in aerobic activity and/or resistance training fewer than three times per week over the past two months; and generally healthy with no known cardiac, pulmonary or metabolic condition.
