The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will host a full day of presentations, demonstrations and music related to voyageur and French Canadian culture on Saturday, Oct. 1. The event coincides with French-Canadian Heritage Week in the State of Michigan. Admission is free.

Historian Tim Kent will give a 10:30 a.m. presentation on the French colonial and fur trade era. He and his family, including dog Toby, paddled the 3,000-mile mainline fur trade canoe route across North America. After two decades researching and replicating the main articles of native daily life and the primary French trade goods, he and his family vacationed in wilderness settings, living with only those articles.

Kent will also offer fur trade demonstrations from noon to 4 p.m. A French-Canadian musical performance by the Maple Sugar Folks and Dlutkowski Sisters is scheduled from 1-2:30 p.m.
