First Nations Food Taster Nov. 4

Tuesday 25, 2016

The 16th annual First Nations Food Taster at Northern Michigan University will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in the Jacobetti Complex. Many of the menu items are inspired by the Decolonizing Diet Project, which celebrates Great Lakes Indigenous foods and ingredients. Returning menu items include bison stew, three sisters’ casserole, pumpkin corn bread and sunbutter cookies. New menu items include turkey stir-fry and mint wild rice salad.

Elda Tate will provide live music. The NMU Native American Student Association is hosting the event. The First Nations Food Taster also serves as a fundraiser for the 25th annual “Learning to Walk Together” traditional pow wow in March 2017, and is part of the NMU campus-wide Native American Heritage Month.

Advanced tickets are available at the Center for Native American Studies in 112 Whitman Hall and the Multicultural Education and Resource Center in 3001 Hedgcock. Prices are $5 for NMU students with ID, elders and veterans, or $12 for general admission. Tickets at the door are $7 and $15, respectively.
