NMU Loss Prevention Program Enters Agreement

Friday 11, 2016

The Loss Prevention Foundation (LPF) announced that Northern Michigan University has agreed to waive the loss prevention management 101 prerequisite for anyone who is LPQualified or LPCertified. This enables students to take advanced courses without the prerequisite.

“It is our pleasure to partner with LPF to further our joint goal of advancing the loss prevention/asset protection profession," said Bob Hanson, NMU professor and loss prevention degree coordinator, in an LPF press release. "NMU supports the industry through research, encouraging traditional on-campus students to consider it as a career, and offering a loss prevention degree.

“Having our bachelor's degree in loss prevention management online allows students to fit school around previous commitments such as work and family, without totally disengaging them from everyday life. Combine that with faculty who are easily accessible and willing to help students ease back into school, and they find transitioning back into higher education a great experience. We have a generous transfer policy from accredited community colleges and universities and individualized academic advising.”

Gene Smith, president of the Loss Prevention Foundation, said, “We are very pleased and excited to see that Northern Michigan University has recognized the value of our LPQ and LPC certification courses. We look forward to partnering with NMU so that we can both continue to advance our profession by providing a quality degree program easier for working professionals."

According to the press release, NMU is the only university with an online retail loss prevention degree. It offers baccalaureate degrees with majors and minors in loss prevention management and criminal justice.
