Family Communication and Mental Health Scholar Presents at NMU
Northern Michigan University alumna Alesia Woszidlo will present a colloquium on her work with the Kansas Women’s Leadership Institute on Friday, Feb. 24, at NMU. She specializes in family communication and mental health as an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Kansas.
Woszidlo's researches the association between three elements: mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and stress; communication processes including conflict management, coping strategies and social skills deficits; and relationship quality ranging from commitment to divorce proneness. She also examines the family of origin and how it affects the communication patterns used in romantic and family relationships.
The 2002 NMU communication studies graduate will speak at 3:30 p.m. in 318 Thomas Fine Arts. The public is invited.
