Police-Community Relations Forum at NMU
Northern Michigan University will host a Police-Community Relations Forum from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, in room 122 of the Jacobetti Complex. The forum is structured for a maximum attendance of 100. It is presented by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).
In addition to the forum, a short survey for residents to provide feedback on how to advance police-community relations in their area is available until Monday, March 20, at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ExeDir2016-2.
Gov. Rick Snyder previously issued an executive order that MCOLES undertake a study and produce a public report by May 1 that addresses the topic of fostering public trust in law enforcement. The forum will allow residents to provide input.
When completed, the report will offer a set of recommendations to advance the quality of police-community relationships, training and recruitment across the state. The goal is to determine how residents and law enforcement can work together to make local communities safe and secure.
