Pianist Performs at NMU

Northern Michigan University's music department will host a piano concert by visiting artist Craig Randal Johnson at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Johnson is the conductor and artistic director of Minnehaha Music in Minnesota. He has performed as a piano recitalist across the United States as Finlandia Foundation's “Performer of the Year." Other appearances include the Amsterdam Chamber Series in New York, the Rock Church, Sundin Hall, the Hill House, the Landmark Center in St. Paul and various concerts sponsored by Finnfest USA. In January, he played the program “Piano Music from Finland” in Minneapolis, honoring 100 years of Finnish independence.

Johnson has conducted the Florida Symphony, Marquette Symphony, Superior Festival Orchestra, North Star Opera, Boreal Chamber Symphony, symphony concerts for Finnfest USA. He also was resident conductor for the Rome Festival Orchestra for three seasons.

A graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Minnesota, Johnson also studied at the “Mozarteum” in Salzburg, the Aspen Music School, the Berlin Conducting Symposium and Dartmouth College.
