Three Northern Michigan University student organizations are hosting public activities to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day and recognize 525 years of Indigenous resistance against colonization. The events will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, in the academic mall between West Science and Jamrich Hall. 

The three organizations coordinating the activities are: the Native American Student Association; the American Indian Science and Engineering Society; and the Native American Language and Culture Club.

Introduction to Indigenous Peoples' Day, wtih drum songs by Morning Thunder, 11 a.m. 

Open Discussion, noon.

Historical/contemporary readings and imagery, 1 p.m.

Open Discussion, 2 p.m. 

March to Cohodas, loop around campus, 3 p.m.

Closing ceremony and round dance, 4 p.m.

A roundtable discussion with ASNMU student government and community members will be held from 5-7 p.m.
