NMU Screens Royal Ballet's 'Frankenstein'

Wednesday 18, 2017

Northern Michigan University’s music department is presenting a screening of Frankenstein, performed by the Royal Ballet, as part of the Siril Cinema Series. The film will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in Forest Roberts Theatre. Admission is $10 for adults and free for anyone under 18, along with NMU students, faculty and staff with ID.

The film is a period adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Gothic tale of morality and one’s craving for love, companionship and understanding. In it, Victor Frankenstein’s mother dies in childbirth just before he leaves his family and closest friend for a university. Distraught, he throws himself into his studies, obsessively learning all that he can from his professor. Fueled by his experiments and in a desperate hope to find a way to bring his mother back, he works furiously and eventually succeeds in giving life to a non-living matter. Horrified by what he has done, he abandons his creation.

The Siril Endowment for Musical Arts is sponsoring this event.
