Northern Michigan University will ramp up its salute to area veterans at all Veteran’s Day home athletic events on Saturday, Nov. 11. In addition to free admission to most events for each veteran and a guest, along with an opportunity to stand and be recognized at all competitions, there will be a ceremony honoring veterans before the football game.

The ceremony begins at noon near the flagpole outside the Superior Dome’s main entrance, weather permitting. It will feature the presentation of colors by the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC) Color Guard, the NMU marching band and recognition of NMU veteran students’ accomplishments.

Navy veteran and NMU student Connor Loftus will give a brief presentation at the ceremony. He is a fisheries and wildlife management major and is also pursuing a geographic information systems certificate. President Fritz Erickson will present an honorary coin to U.S. Air Force veteran and NMU finance major Paul Flint to recognize his volunteer service.

Free tickets for each vet and a guest can be obtained with an ID at the will-call windows for Wildcat football at 1 p.m. and volleyball at 4:30 p.m. Both teams will face Northwood. Swimming and diving, which offers free general admission, competes against UW-Stevens Point at 2 p.m. in the PEIF pool. Tickets can be purchased for the Wildcat hockey game against rival Michigan Tech at 7 p.m . at the Berry Events Center. Northern’s ROTC Wildcat Battalion Color Guard will participate in the volleyball and hockey events.
