NMU's Gonzo Media Screens 'Ali: Fear Eats the Soul'
The Northern Michigan University Gonzo Media group will screen Ali: Fear Eats the Soul at 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, in room 165 of NMU’s Art and Design Building. The event is free for students and $1 for the public.
In the 1974 film, cleaning lady Emmi Kurowski is lonely in her old age, since her husband died years ago and her grown children offer little companionship. She goes to a bar frequented by Arab immigrants and strikes up a friendship with Ali, a middle-aged mechanic. Their relationship soon develops into something more, and Emmi's family and neighbors criticize their spontaneous marriage. Soon Emmi and Ali are forced to confront their own insecurities about their future.
Directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the film is 1 hour and 34 minutes long and is not rated.
