Northern Michigan University President Fritz Erickson will present an honorary coin to U.S. Air Force veteran and NMU finance major Paul Flint to recognize his volunteer service. The presentation will take place during a ceremony honoring veterans at noon Saturday, Nov. 11, before the NMU football game. It will take place at the flagpole outside the Superior Dome’s main entrance, weather permitting, or inside.

NMU will additionally be honoring veterans at all of its home athletic events on Veterans Day with free admission to most events for each veteran and a guest, along with an opportunity to stand and be recognized at all competitions.

Flint served in the military as a meteorologist for the U.S. Air Force from 2007-2011. He was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., for one year and then at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. He served under Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) Command with the 17th Operational Weather Squadron, providing support for the Pacific theater.

Flint is the treasurer for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 22 of Marquette County. As a DAV van driver, he is transitioning into the assistant DAV van coordinator position. He is a member of the Marquette County Veteran Alliance and a member of NMU’s Student Veterans Association.

The ceremony will feature the presentation of colors by the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC) Color Guard, the NMU marching band and recognition of NMU veteran students’ accomplishments.
