Alumnus Completes First Novel

Northern Michigan University alumnus B.G. Bradley (‘93) completed his first novel, Winter Heart. The U.P. native earned his master’s degree in English at NMU and previously worked as a newspaper reporter. Bradley has taught English and drama for more than 30 years in the central Upper Peninsula.

Winter Heart is the story of Ben O’Brian, a retired English professor and poet who lost his wife to cancer several years before the opening of the story. He finds himself alone with his beloved Labradors in familiar territory on Hunter Lake, a fictional U.P. locale where his family has long resided and continues to reside. O’Brian claims to be looking for peace and quiet, but his younger sister, Jen, believes that is the last thing he needs.

According to a TV6 report on the book's release this fall, Winter Heart is available regionally at places including Snowbound, the Falling Rock Café in Munising, Snyder Drug Stores the Marquette Regional History Center. It is also available online.
