NMU Participates in Gift of Life Michigan Challenge

Northern Michigan University is among 13 Michigan colleges and universities participating in the 15th annual Gift of Life Michigan Campus Challenge, an organ and tissue donor drive competition. Students, professors, alumni and community members can register to become a donor by visiting GiftOfLifeMichigan.org/CampusChallenge and selecting NMU as the favorite school. NMU was in fourth place in the real-time statewide results as of Jan. 31. The competition runs through Feb. 20.

Along with online registration, the NMU Volunteer Center will host on-campus registration tables at the following times: 8:30 a.m –1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Jamrich Hall ticket booth; 1-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at the LRC circulation table; 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Wildcat Health and Wellness fair in the University Center; 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Gant/Spaulding lobby; and 5:30–7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the LRC circulation table.

According to its website, the Gift of Life Michigan Campus Challenge is one of the most successful organ donation college outreach programs in the nation, and has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Since 2004, the competition has inspired nearly 40,000 people to join the state’s donor registry.
