NMU Jazz Festival April 12-13

Los Angeles-based pianist and vocalist Aimee Nolte will be the featured guest at the Northern Michigan University Jazz Festival. She will perform in the opening concert with the NMU Jazz Festival Faculty Combo and the Ishpeming High School Jazz Band on Thursday, April 12, and in the closing concert with the NMU Jazz Band and Combo on Friday, April 13. Both begin at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Recital Hall. Tickets for each are $6 for NMU students, $8 for other students and $12 for the public. They are available at NMU EZ Ticket outlets or at nmu.edu/tickets.

Nolte began playing professionally at the age of 14. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a music degree and emphasis in jazz in 1998. Nolte has performed with jazz musicians including John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Ken Peplowski and Frank Vignola. She also regularly performs around Los Angeles County with her own groups, “The Aimee Nolte Trio” and “Skirt & Suit.” In addition to performing, Nolte is a music educator and produces videos for her YouTube channel, which has more than 98,000 subscribers. Regional high school and middle school jazz bands will participate in clinics and performances at the NMU Jazz Festival from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 13. Nolte will lead guest artist clinics from 11-11:50 a.m. and 4-4:50 p.m. in 1100 Jamrich Hall. The clinics are free and open the public.
