Chemistry Symposium Explores Science Communication
The NMU Department of Chemistry is hosting the fifth annual Student Research
Symposium sponsored by the Upper Peninsula Section of the American Chemical
Society on Saturday, April 14th. Elke Schoffers, chemistry professor at Western Michigan University, will deliver the keynote address, "Does science get lost in translation?"
She will explore the media's pivotal role in translating scientific outcomes. Science is data-driven and based on evidence, yet current headlines are plagued with fake news and disinformation campaigns, she said. So what should chemists know about the science of science communication when it comes to climate change?
The seminar is at 2 p.m. in Mead Auditorium. The public is invited.
