Media are welcome to cover the Women in Construction event from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the Northern Michigan University Jacobetti Complex. Please note that if any local schools and/or NMU are closed due to inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to April 20. 

About 120 female students in grades 7-12 have registered for Women in Construction, an event that will provide them with an opportunity to learn from and interact with women in the construction industry. Each attendee will create a 3-D model using Computer-aided Design software, build a toolbox in the workshop and cut a decorative metal accessory for the toolbox using a Plasma cutting systems. The event provides young women with an opportunity to experience career options that they might not think of in the course of their typical career exploration.

The event is coordinated and put on by all women volunteers including NMU students and faculty and professionals from the industry. The media contact for NMU is Heidi Blanck, professor in the construction management program.
