Bachelor of Music Education

PROGRAM LEVEL OUTCOMES


1. PERFORMANCE - Students will perform solo, ensemble and chamber repertoire on their primary instrument or voice with appropriate technique, accuracy, expressivity, stage presence, and “performance practice” creativity. Repertoire will feature various time periods, genres, and include works by diverse composers. 

2. MUSIC THEORY - Students will identify musical elements and organizational patterns through visual analysis. 

3. AURAL SKILLS - Students will identify musical elements and organizational patterns through aural analysis. 

4. MUSIC HISTORY – Students will apply knowledge related to the history of music, including various time periods, historical figures, styles, and genres in Western and non-Western musical traditions to curriculum development, lesson planning, and daily classroom and performance activities both in general and as related to their area(s) or specialization. 

5. FUNCTIONAL KEYBOARD SKILLS - Students will demonstrate scales, inversions, chord progressions, sight-reading, solo and accompaniment repertoire, harmonization, transposition, improvisation, and four-part score reading. 

6. MUSIC LITERATURE/ANALYSIS – Students will apply analytical knowledge of style and literature to curriculum development, lesson planning, and daily classroom and performance activities both in general and as related to their area(s) or specialization. 

7. CONDUCTING/MUSICAL LEADERSHIP – Students will study, read and conduct from both vocal and instrumental scores while demonstrating (non-verbal) expressive and clear gestures when performing and articulating (verbally) expressive and clear ideas when teaching the ensemble. 

8. SCORING/ARRANGING – Students will create coherent and artistic arrangements from a variety of sources for instrumental and/or vocal ensembles using industry standard music notation software to meet the needs and ability levels of individuals, school performing groups and in classroom situations. 

9. LITERATURE/METHODS/TEACHING – Students will demonstrate an understanding of literature, methodology and administration of a school choral or instrumental program. Students will demonstrate proficiency in teaching skills including classroom management, rehearsal techniques, creating assessments for instruction to various ages and skill levels, and the ability to diagnose and correct musical and technical faults.
