The Registrar's Office will communicate with you about graduation and the commencement ceremony via e-mail that is sent to your nmu e-mail address about three weeks prior to the end of the semester.  In this communication, you will receive information from the NMU records system for you to review for the printing of your diploma and final transcript. If you are participating in commencement, the e-mailing will also include your seat assignment.

The Family Rights and Privacy Act (federal law) stipulates that if you have a restriction on your name, address or other information, it can not be released by the University. As you graduate, restricted information can create potential problems for you. For example, if your name is restricted, we can not verify your graduation to prospective employers or notify your home newspaper of your graduation. In addition, you may not participate in commencement, or have your name published in the commencement program. Please come to the Registrar's Office, C.B. Hedgcock, Room 2202, to remove restrictions.

Diplomas will be mailed approximately eight weeks after the commencement ceremony. For December graduates, there is a two week delay from other graduation periods due to the holidays.

A limited number of seats have been reserved to accommodate those needing handicapped seating on a first come first served basis. If you have questions about disability related accommodations or services during commencement, please contact the Degree Evaluation Office at 227-2257 or e-mail degaudit@nmu.edu. Reasonable and effective accommodations and services will be provided to students if requests are made in a timely manner, with appropriate documentation, in accordance with federal, state and university guidelines.

Rehearsal will begin promptly at 2:15 pm in the Superior Dome on Friday, prior to ceremony.

The university has retained the services of a professional photographer from GradImages to take your picture as you shake the President’s hand. Instructions for ordering will be sent to your permanent home address (see information restrictions above) from the photographer with a “proof” print. If you have questions, please contact GradImages at 800-424-3686. You can visit their web site at www.gradimages.com and click on pre-event e-mail registration. Enter your e-mail and up to six other e-mails to have your photo samples quickly and conveniently provided to you and any others who you registered. Get $5 off on orders of $25 or more just by registering your information with GradImages prior to the ceremony. After the commencement ceremony, order online at the web site or call 800-261-2576.

You must report to the Vandament Arena (Room 160 in the PEIF building), Saturday at 9:15 am to line up for the processional. The march to the Superior Dome is a little after 10:00 am. Please inform your guests that the Superior Dome will open at 9:30 am and commencement begins at 10:30 am. Guest seating is not limited and is open to the general public. No tickets are necessary.
