What is a Degree Audit?

A degree audit, also known as a degree evaluation or academic audit, is a comprehensive review of a student's academic progress toward completing the requirements for a degree. It is a tool used by universities and colleges to ensure that students are on track to meet all the necessary criteria for graduation. The degree evaluation report shows how NMU courses, transfer courses and courses in progress apply toward degree requirements.

At NMU we have two degree evaluation tools:

(1) Curriculum, Advising and Program Planning (CAPP): This evaluation tool is active for students who follow a Catalog prior to 2024-2025.

(2) DegreeWorks: This evaluation tool is active for students who follow the 2024-2025 Catalog and on.

Important Reminders:

  • Degree evaluations are not official unless they are run and reviewed by the Registrar’s Office and have “Official Degree Evaluation” stated at the top. Official evaluations are run after students have completed the minimum credits required [bachelor's - 87, associate's - 32, certificate - 16]. Evaluations run by students and advisers are intended to be used as an informal planning tool only.
  • Degree evaluations will only include credits earned from fall 1993 to present.
  • CAPP has only been written for programs from fall 2004 to 2023. It can be run for students under bulletins earlier than 2004, but the evaluation will be based on requirements from 2004 to present.
  • DegreeWorks has only been written for programs from Fall 2024-2025 to the present. It cannot be run for students under bulletins earlier than 2024-2025.

Not all academic programs have been set up in a degree evaluation. If you try to run degree evaluations and are unable to generate a report, it is likely your program is not available. The following programs are not available:

  • any student admitted as a post-baccalaureate (until individualized evaluation is created by Degree Evaluation staff)
  • pre-professional (pre-med, pre-pharmacy, pre-vet, etc.)
  • majors/minors no longer offered or suspended by NMU
  • new majors/minors not yet added to a degree evaluation

Prior to running a degree evaluation, we recommend you visit one of the Degree Evaluations guides. It may be helpful to print this guide and reference it while reviewing your degree evaluation.

To access or run an informal degree evaluation:

  1. Log in to MyNMU
  2. Select “View/Run CAPP Degree Evaluation” or "DegreeWorks" tile
