Andrew Engstrom

Instructor of Technology and Occupational Sciences

Andy is a 2002 graduate of the NMU Construction Management program. Upon graduation, Andy
moved to the Twin Cities to work as an Assistant Superintendent at Rottlund Homes Inc. where he
managed new construction multi-family buildings with underground parking. Looking to gain
experience in a different aspect of construction, Andy took over the Scheduling Coordinator role at TMI
Coatings, Inc. located in St. Paul. There, he coordinated the daily activities and locations for 40+ field
workers throughout the United States.
Looking to move back to the UP, Andy obtained his Michigan Residential Builders License and took on
the role of Construction Supervisor at Marquette County Habitat for Humanity helping to build four to
six new single-family homes each year. A couple years later, he was promoted to the Director of
Construction. During his time at MCHFH, he was directly involved in 26 new homes, including the
affiliate’s 100 th build in Marquette County. Looking increase his knowledge and potential in the
construction industry, Andy studied to become a Certified Home Inspector. This allowed him to conduct
home inspections for home buyers in the residential market. In 2016, Andy accepted the position of
Building Inspector and Plan Reviewer at Marquette County Building Codes. For the next seven and a half
years, Andy was involved with thousands of building permits for new construction, additions and
alterations of residential and commercials projects throughout Marquette County. Starting in January of
2022, Andy was an Adjunct Instructor at NMU teaching the Codes and Inspection class along with the
Michigan Residential Codes class. During his time teaching at NMU, Andy realized his passion for
teaching and wanted to help develop the next generation of construction professionals on a full-time
basis. During the summer of 2023, a full-time teaching opportunity was available at NMU. Andy was
the successful candidate and is grateful to be a part of the Fun Bunch at NMU.
Andy, his wife Sarah, and four kids reside in Negaunee. Most days you will find them at the football
field, basketball court, baseball field or volleyball court supporting their kids. Andy is currently seeking
his Masters Degree in Public Administration at NMU.
