Welcome home, future Wildcat

At NMU there is an adventure in every season. May it be at the beach or on the mountain, in the world's largest wooden dome or learning hands-on skills in the field, Northern truly delivers an incredible experience that isn't limited to a traditional lecture hall.

Our campus visit program is one of the best in the state, with 8/10 attendees rating it as "excellent." So come and see what others have been saying, and experience for yourself what it means to be a student at NMU.

NMU is Test-Blind/Test-Free

NMU has permanently adopted a test-blind/test-free admission policy for all future terms. Test scores (ACT/SAT) are not required and will not be considered in admission decisions. Please see NMU's Test Blind Policy FAQ for more information.

Admission requirements differ depending on the status of the applicant (first-year student, transfer, etc.) and the level of academic program. The "apply by student type" page describe the credentials considered, the admission requirements and the application procedures for each applicant status and program level in more detail.  Please see the NMU Bulletin for Admissions Policy information.

Academic departments may have additional requirements for admission to specific programs.

This Way North

While part of what makes NMU unique is our incredible location, we are so much more than a pretty place. From our classrooms that span beyond the traditional lecture hall, to the numerous activities to do both on- and off-campus, we offer something for everyone.

Marissa Lindstrom

I decided to come to NMU because they offered the program I was passionate about, environmental studies. The major is incredibly interdisciplinary and reaches beyond environmental sustainability, which is what I was looking for in a program. NMU also offered experiences outside the classroom, utilizing the great outdoors that surround campus.
