(formerly the TLC Award)

Purposes:  This program recognizes exemplary faculty use of technology in the areas of teaching, research, and community service. The award is designed to recognize innovation in the introduction and application of technology, including (but not limited to) mobile devices, in the academic environment. Up to two awards of $750 each will be made annually.

Nominations can address one or more of three categories:

  • Category 1: Teaching improvement. Demonstrating the application of innovative educational technology for improving teaching effectiveness.
  • Category 2: Research applications. Demonstrating the application of innovative technology for professional research.
  • Category 3: Community information outreach services. Demonstrating the application of innovative technology in community service.

Nomination Instructions and Deadline:

This award program is open to all NMU faculty members or teams of faculty members (team entries will be treated as an individual entry with team members sharing the award). Nominations can be made by any member of the university community (including students). Self-nominations are also accepted. Nominations must be submitted via email to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs to Claudia Mankee (cmankee@nmu.edu) no later than Thursday, October 19, 2023. The nomination form should be the first attachment. Additional materials should also be sent as attachments (file size permitting).

The nomination must include:

  1. Completed Faculty Technology Innovation Award Nomination Form. This is an Adobe Acrobat Form – you can complete the form within Adobe Acrobat Reader, and you can then save the completed form to your mobile device.
  2. Sample products/supporting/materials (lesson plans/assignments, learning outcomes assessment results, course artifacts, research publications, documents, drawings, applications, etc.). Please keep in mind that mail servers limit the size of attachments to 1.5 megabytes. For significantly larger files, applicants should arrange for materials to be available on a web site (please contact the NMU Help Desk if you need assistance).
  3. A current Curriculum Vita


Nominees will receive an email confirmation of the receipt of nomination materials.  (If you do not receive such a confirmation email within 48 hours of the deadline for submission, please inquire to ensure materials were received.)

Selection procedure: A sub-committee of the Educational Technology Resources and Policy Committee (ETRPC) will review nominations and recommend up to two award recipients to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Awards will be presented during the Celebration of Scholarship.

Conditions: The material submitted by the winners can be used by the University for promotion purposes. Faculty may be asked to present their work to the Board of Trustees.
