Students

Find your major in the list of schools below and declare your participation in an articulation agreement! This will let NMU know a bit about you and we will connect you with your personal admissions counselor to give you a head start on degree planning.

Faculty, staff, and advisers

For faculty and staff both at external colleges and at NMU that would like to create an articulation agreement, please visit this website.

Articulation Agreements

Northern Michigan University values its partnerships with other colleges and universities.  Agreements with our partners fall into one of three categories: Articulation Agreements, "Reverse Transfer" Agreements, and CTE Postsecondary Credit Agreements.

NMU also accepts many Michigan MiTransfer Pathways at the statewide level for public community college students.

For general transfer information, Major Equivalency Guides (not guaranteed pathways), and course equivalencies visit our Transfer Credit page

The articulation agreements listed below are formal agreements and partnerships between NMU and at least one other college or university to provide a clearly documented path from a specific academic program or degree at another college to a specific academic program or degree at NMU. In some cases, the agreements are broad and guarantee a transfer of credits or fulfill some requirements at NMU.

An archive of past agreements is at the bottom of the page. If you were following an agreement that you do not see on this list, please contact us immediately at transfer@nmu.edu.

Reverse Transfer Agreements

These formal agreements allow students an option to potentially complete an associate’s degree (or Michigan Transfer Agreement) at their previous institution while continuing their studies at NMU (i.e. after the student transfers).

These can be complicated to understand, and we recommend working with an NMU admissions counselor and a counselor at the other institution if you are considering this path.

We currently have agreements with the following institutions:

These agreements have since expired.

North Central Michigan College
Northwestern Michigan College

Postsecondary Credit Agreements

NMU maintains statewide agreements for high school students earning college-level credit while still enrolled in high school.

MiTransfer Pathways

MiTransfer Pathways are a Michigan statewide initiative to assist transfer students in select associate degree programs choosing to pursue a bachelor's degree at a Michigan university. Faculty from across the state have identified courses students may complete at a community college during their first and second year which will transfer smoothly to the corresponding bachelor's degree program at all participating universities. It is also recommended that students participate in the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) Program at their community college to complete their General Education requirements at NMU.
