Michael Crum - College of Business

Dr. Michael D. Crum is an Assistant Professor at Northern Michigan University. He has a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from the University of Louisville. He also holds an MBA, a Master’s in Strategic Finance, and a Bachelor’s degree with majors in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University Southeast. He has taught a number of courses in management and entrepreneurship at NMU. 

Michael has published articles in journals such as the Journal of Business Research, the International Journal of Entrepreneurship and the Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences. He is currently working on several research papers focusing on the following research and pedagogical topics: (1) how productive entrepreneurship can manifest itself in economies plagued by corruption and substantial regulatory burdens, (2) how entrepreneurs can be successful when they lack legitimacy, (3) how methods of constructing numerical taxonomies (i.e. cluster analysis) can be applied to answer research questions in the field of entrepreneurship, and (4) how Monte Carlo simulations can be used to enhance entrepreneurial finance courses.

Michael has a number of hobbies, including reading, traveling, biking, fishing, building models, and tinkering with electronics. He also enjoys collecting books, minerals, model steam engines, and Lionel trains.
