Academic Programs
The NMU College of Business has four different options for students looking to explore education in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense:
- Accounting Major
- Accounting Minor
- Financial Management Major
Where Accounting and Finance Can Take You
The career opportunities available to you as an accounting or financial management major are vast, and only depend on the competencies and skills you acquire through your academic work and extracurricular activities. Potential job titles for graduates of these programs include accountant, auditor, chief financial officer, loan officer, purchasing agent, and more.
Accounting Major
Accounting careers have been staples in our economy. Even when markets have slowed over the years, accountants have remained in high demand. A business degree in accounting from Northern Michigan University provides basic competency in the functional areas of accounting and provides students with the minimum requirements to sit for professional examinations such as the CPA and CMA examinations.
Accounting Minor
An accounting minor is a valuable minor intended to provide students with a good understanding of accountancy practices and principles. Students majoring in an area outside of the College of Business, but have an interest in taxation and accountancy often choose an accounting minor.
Financial Management Major
The financial management major provides students with basic competency in the functional area of financial management. The program provides students with an educational foundation that is needed to prepare for professional exams and national licenses in financial analysis, insurance, banking, and other financial areas.
