Supervisors and new employees have access to specific task lists for onboarding over the first 6 months of employment. To review these task lists:
- New employees may log in to the Applicant and Onboarding Portal
- Supervisors may log in to the PageUp Talent Management Portal
Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following best practices:
Before Arriving on Your First Day
- Speak with your manager to confirm your start date, where to go, what to bring and what to expect for the first day and week.
- Log in to your Onboarding Portal and review the task list.
- Locate where you are going on your first day (campus map).
- Review parking and transportation options.
- Gather information and documentation required for I-9 completion and benefits enrollment.
First Day
- Review your "Welcome to NMU" email and benefits orientation materials.
- Create your username and password.
- Obtain your NMU Wildcat Express ID card.
- Get your laptop (if applicable) and set up your workstation.
- Purchase parking pass (if applicable).
First Week and Beyond
- Get a tour of campus. Ask your supervisor or a co-worker to show you around.
- Review your job description, responsibilities and expectations with your supervisor.
- Review department, division and University policies and procedures.
- Return completed benefit enrollment forms to Human Resources within 30 days of start date.
- Review NMU's Emergency Preparedness Plan.
- Complete all required job training.
- Discuss the performance review process with your supervisor.
- Probationary reviews are due within 90-days for TOP employees and within 6 months for AFSCME, AP and Non-Represented employees.
